Two runners-up worth a look: Deer Lodge "The Deer Luxe" in Whistler Village at $2,685 all-in for any January week (in-suite laundry, gym at the sister lodge, parking included, but no pool and its hot tub is under renovation until about January 2027), and Laax Rancho Residence in Switzerland at $1,477 (studio, March) to $1,847 (1-bed, January or March) with indoor pool, sauna and fitness room 5 minutes from the Murschetg gondola.
How to read the prices
What a price includes
- North America: Airbnb totals include cleaning and the Airbnb service fee but not lodging tax. The all-in figures add tax at 16% for British Columbia, about 15% for Park City, 20.4% for Steamboat, about 16% for Breckenridge, 12% for Big Sky and 18.5% for Quebec, then convert CAD at 1.38.
- Europe: Airbnb totals include fees. Tourist tax is paid locally, typically €1 to €5 per person per night (CHF 4 in Swiss villages). Some French hosts add cleaning, linen and towels at check-out; where seen it is noted.
- Japan: quotes are per night in yen; a 10% accommodation tax and Kutchan's 2% lodging tax may be added on top in Niseko.
What "refundable" means here
- Every Airbnb pick carried the Free cancellation badge on the search card for those dates. The exact deadline is the host's tier and only prints at checkout (see the refund rules section). Check the printed date before paying.
- Booking direct is often more flexible in Europe (Pierre & Vacances 1 month, CGH €50 to walk away 30+ days out, Montela 14 days) and less flexible in Japan (20% deposits) and at US resort-run lodging (30-day non-refundable windows).
- Any booking made at least 7 days out gets Airbnb's automatic 24-hour grace period regardless of tier.
North America: Whistler and Canyons Village win on price after tax
Whistler village lodges run $1,950 to $2,700 all-in once 16% BC tax is added. Colorado looks similar before tax but 16 to 20% lodging tax plus $30 to $50 a night for parking pushes most one-bedrooms past $3,000. Tremblant is cheapest but its pools are summer-only and January is very cold.

Europe: France has the residences, Italy has the prices, Switzerland barely fits
French "residence" brands (Pierre & Vacances Premium, CGH, MGM) bundle a pool, sauna, hammam and fitness room into the rent, and most are ski-in/out. The catch is laundry: nearly all put washers in a shared launderette rather than the apartment. Chamonix's La Cordée and Tignes' Le Kalinda are the exceptions with a machine in the flat. Austria (St Anton, Ischgl, Sölden, Obergurgl, Saalbach) produced nothing with a gym and washer in-resort under budget for January. Zermatt was already ruled out in the earlier month-stay research; Andermatt and Saas-Fee proper had no gym-equipped apartment under $3,000.

CGH residences booked through UK operators publish 2026-27 weekly prices but are never free to cancel (Peak Retreats keeps the 25% deposit beyond 42 days and 100% inside 8 days). Guide prices for a 1-bed low-season week: Les Clarines, Les Menuires £1,807 (≈$2,409); Le Centaure, Flaine £1,665 (≈$2,220, 10% off the 9 Jan, 16 Jan, 6 Mar and 13 Mar weeks if booked by 31 Oct 2026); Le Cristal de Jade, Chamonix £1,730 (≈$2,307). Booking CGH direct costs only €50 to cancel more than 30 days out, which is close to refundable.
Japan: mid-March Niseko fits, January does not
The same Niseko unit costs roughly three times as much in mid-January as in mid-March, and the 13–20 March week was the cheapest of the target weeks at almost every property checked. No Niseko aparthotel with a gym and in-unit laundry came in under $3,000 for a January week. Genuinely free cancellation exists only through Booking.com "free cancellation before [date]" plans; every operator's direct channel (Setsu, AYA, MUSE, Powderlife-managed units) takes a 20 to 25% non-refundable deposit. Booking.com Japan quotes exclude 10% VAT plus ¥150 per person per night onsen tax or 3% Kutchan city tax, so add 10 to 13%. Airbnb totals are all-in.

Lift-pass promos tied to lodging (Europe)
- Dolomiti Springdays L, 13–20 Mar 2027: 7 nights for the price of 6 and a 6-day Dolomiti Superski pass (and hire) for the price of 5, with a voucher from a participating accommodation. Springdays S from 20 Mar to 4 Apr: 4 nights and a 4-day pass for the price of 3. Early-bird online pass purchase by 28 Feb adds 5% off. Alta Badia, Val Gardena, Val di Fassa all qualify. Terms.
- Dolomiti Superpremière, 6–21 Dec 2026: 4 nights and a 4-day pass for the price of 3, or 8 for 6.

Japan
- Ikon lodging in Japan: Hoshino Resorts up to 35% off (no deadline stated), Lime Resort Myoko 20% off with dinner and breakfast and 2 pm checkout (no deadline), Shin Furano Prince 25% and Shiga Kogen Prince 20% (both had an Aug 27 deadline). Niseko United, Kiroro, Rusutsu and Hakuba are all on Ikon.
- Lift passes: Niseko United charges about ¥13,500 a day in January and February, ¥12,600 regular and ¥8,800 in early and spring season; a 7-day pass is nearly £150 cheaper after 23 March. Hakuba Valley is ¥11,100 a day with a free valley shuttle on ski days.
- Building perks: Hinode Hills and Kasara guests get Hilton Honors points and half-board plans; Setsu includes daily breakfast, the ski shuttle and lockers; Yu Kiroro offers ski valet, lift-pass packages and 5% off returning direct bookings.
Building perks that showed up most
Free ski valet with overnight tuning (Silverado, Westgate, Cascade, Aspens); private ski lockers with boot dryers (La Cordée, Tignes, Selva); guest shuttles to the lifts (Maison Poluc, Setsu Niseko, Canyons Connect); included parking (Deer Lodge, Verbier Tremblant, Silverado, Tignes); on-site onsen in Japan.
Timing: the 9 January and 6 or 13 March weeks are the value windows
- Europe: the second week of January and mid-to-late March run 30 to 60% below Christmas, February half-term and Easter. Chamonix's Mont Blanc Unlimited pass is 25% cheaper in its January and March windows. The 13–20 March week adds the Dolomiti Springdays bonus.
- North America: avoid 16–18 Jan (MLK) and 13–20 Feb (Presidents' Day). The 9–16 and 23–30 January weeks priced identically at most Whistler and Park City listings; March was much cheaper at Whistler (Cascade Lodge $2,572 all-in vs $3,298 in January).
- Japan: January is peak powder and peak price in Niseko. The same Hinode Hills suite was $7,225 for 16–23 Jan, $2,573 for 6–13 Mar and $2,089 for 13–20 Mar; Chalet Ivy, Always Niseko and SeiSei showed the same 50 to 70% January-to-March drop, and the Coming of Age Day weekend (9–11 Jan) added no premium on Airbnb. March keeps good Hokkaido snow; Chinese New Year falls around 6 Feb 2027 and spikes prices for two weeks.
- Booking now versus later: every pick above is refundable, so the play is to lock the best one now and re-shop in October (when Solitude and most US resort lodging posts 26/27 rates) and again 30 to 45 days before travel, cancelling if something better appears.
Before you pay
- On Airbnb, read the "Cancellation policy" line at checkout. It prints the exact date and the tier. Firm gives you until 30 days before; Flexible gives you until the day before. Both count as refundable but they are different bets.
- Confirm the washer is in the unit if that matters more than the gym. Listings say "washer" for a shared laundry room too; the tables above say which.
- For French residences, compare the Airbnb total with the direct Pierre & Vacances flexible rate. Direct is usually cheaper, includes the pool and gym, and cancels for €1 up to a month out.
- For Whistler and Park City, add tax mentally (16% and about 15%) and ask about parking before assuming the all-in figure.
- If you hold an Ikon pass, book Winter Park by 29 Sep or Tremblant at any time with the code; both are refundable and cut the price by a quarter to a half.
- Message the host to confirm the pool and hot tubs will be open on your dates. Two Whistler lodges (Eagle, Glacier) are under renovation this winter.
- For Hinode Hills, email the hotel to confirm suite guests can use the Hilton Niseko Village gym before relying on it, and pick the "pay at property, free cancellation" plan rather than the cheaper non-refundable one.
